I’ll be explaining how to start becoming independent on The Professional Freedom Expert.
Independence is another quality that’s the direct result of achieving freedom.
How To Start Becoming Independent
You can start becoming independent by focusing on eliminating debt. It’s a byproduct of making the act of taking initiative priority. That, and becoming self sufficient overall. It happens by building skills that can serve you for a lifetime.
Focus on Eliminating Debt
Focusing on eliminating debt is another way to become independent, mainly from a financial standpoint.
At least that’s what most people think.
To some extent, you have to get rid of anything that keeps you financially dependent.
That could be from a credit card that you’re used to continuously use or maybe you’re younger, working on becoming independent and have dependence on your parents or a guardian that continues to bail you out of any financial obligations that you have and ultimately you don’t become better with your money.
Or you always end up having to have them pay for your things because that’s all that you’re used to.
And it doesn’t always have to be with finances either.
Being independent through eliminating debts can even be through favors.
So it can be something where you might do something for someone in the form of exchanging labor and from that point moving forward, you may feel that you owe the person something or they may feel that you do and from that point moving forward, whatever you’re doing, you’re going to feel like you have to do it because of whatever thing that the other person did for you was grounds to feel entitled to your things.
And that’s a little more of an anomaly in a sense of there’s not a bunch of people that’s walking around just functioning off of favors that they’re doing for someone else.
That’s not always the case, but it is something that is a real situation.
And just getting that habit of not owing anybody anything, whether that‘s money or labor, favors, or anything that you could think of that would have another person holding something over your head.
Getting rid of all that stuff will make your life much easier and you will be able to move forward and more clearly because you’re not obligated to do anything for anybody.
Anything that you’re doing moving forward is out of your own interest.
Taking Initiative Priority
Making the act of taking the initiative priority is another way to become independent.
This is true because when you’re doing this, you’re not waiting on anyone else to tell you what to do.
You’re being self-driven.
Everything that you’re doing is, again, out of your own accord and this is a quality that cannot be taken for granted.
There’s not many people that are walking around that’s able to do this or even think in this capacity.
It’s important to adopt this mindset because it makes you one of the more valuable assets to whatever team you’re part of.
It sets you up for being the leader of your own team as well.
Becoming Self Sufficient
Being self-sufficient is synonymous with independence because you’re able to sustain yourself without being dependent.
You have to think about it in terms of doing what’s necessary to continue your quality of life without needing a guide, a road map, or any other extra guidance to do any micromanaging that would be had if you were without it.
It’s a decision at the end of the day and it’s learning how to create and produce the platform instead of finding the right one.
That’s for a lack of better analogy so to speak.
You‘re outsourcing and doing everything possible to have your fate completely in your hands.
This is self sufficiency at high level.
Building Skills That Serve You a Lifetime
Building skills that serve you a lifetime is another factor for being independent, and it can be one of the more trickier concepts because it can change as the demands that are made globally are valued.
So what’s important today may not be the case tomorrow.
An example would be AI skills. These are finally being recognized as a skill and are emerging and proving itself to be an actual bullet point that can be put on a resume to increase the value of an individual.
There’s some things that seem to always remain relevant, no matter the day, though.
And these skills are more qualities. In fact, we’ve spoken about them before.
This can be something like having self-control or even a pleasing personality—something that will always remain constant and in the hands of an individual who has to consistently work on them and hone them.
You don’t just master them overnight though, same as anything else.
You will have to work at it every day with any type of relationship—even better is to just label it as relationship building skills.
These are things that you cannot fake the funk in.
You’re not able to just go through the motion and play a certain game that is clearly fake.
You will have to learn how to do things in a genuine way and really mean what it is that you’re saying.
Your actions at the end of the day are gonna be what really stands you apart from anyone else that’s a competitor potentially.
Final Thoughts
Being independent takes prioritizing it in totality.
There‘s things you’re gonna have to nurture about yourself if you want a shot at it, no matter what new skill becomes demanded.
