Why Employee Retention is Not Just About Perks

We’re gonna discuss why employee retention isn’t just about perks.

We know it relies on how valued and supported people feel, but surely there’s more to it though, right?

Feeling Valued and Supported

Can you believe that feeling valued and supported has a lot to do with your environment? Seriously! We can look at the deeper meaning behind those feelings and identify what comes with a place that truly feels like home. First is genuine respect. This is where you’re treated in a standard manner that keeps your dignity. Most relationships depend on this core value if it wants even a chance at surviving.

It calls for a regular recognition for the effort you put in. It’s similar to that philosophy of “a small thanks can go a long way”. You don’t need an overly expensive package to capture genuine appreciation from the rest of your team members. Getting sentimental in this regard becomes the focus because you should and will be focusing on your personal values, and how it’ll fit in with the rest of the organization’s.

Employee Retention Tips and FAQs

Does treating employees better really keep them around?

Yeah. It’s nothing like being appreciated and having noticeable improvement take place within a company you’re involved with.

One of the best companies that I was part of would frequently have everyone in the office go on trips.

I’m sure that there was a technical reason for this procedure they would take, but personally I can recall how grateful I was, for having flexibility with what steps we were allowed to take in effort of accomplishing the overall goal.

My point in this was that the ability to take trips kept things fresh and without a doubt played a role in me staying at that firm much longer than if I were confined to a singular space constantly.

Effective Strategies for improving employee retention

There’s at least 2 strategies that I firmly believe can be effective in improving employee retention. First is including humor whenever possible.

Entertainment at that magnitude has plenty of benefits that’ll only build your team to last for the long haul. There’s not many dark sides to team based businesses that’s discussed, but once they’re revealed, it could actually affect a few that’s not built for the grind. I don’t have the 100% definitive response to take. I’m not sure if there even is, but humor lightens things up, can educate in a different way, and even be a healthy escape. And last is adding a keepsake system that’ll be special to each employee. If you’re able to help the employee feel like more than a badge number, they’re gonna stay with you.

What factors influence employee retention decisions?

There’s so many factors that could influence employee retention decisions. The possibilities are virtually limitless! One category however, I feel could be studied and broken down to great detail is in modernizing approaches with your corporation.

Nobody wants to work with a dinosaur. Maybe a few, but the majority will definitely show up in support for a company that just seems to know what the streets are really wanting. It’s like choosing between several radio stations that plays your favorite genre of music. Which station do you think will have the more loyal fanbase? It’s the one that keeps up with their audience best! They’re gonna have a social media presence, merchandise that their demo cares about, and everything else you could care about OUTSIDE of their known product.

Employee Turnover vs Employee Retention

Employee Turnover is the stat that focuses on how quickly a company can replace an employee that’s registered in their workplace.

What I tend to lean towards when it comes to my thinking of that concept against what’s already known about our topic here, one question pops up in my head:

How important is the difference between retaining and conceptually speaking of flips?

Immediately I’m shifted towards legacy from the business’s perspective. If I had to choose between the 2 I’m going with turnover.

That way I have a reputation for giving people opportunities to build.

What would you say is the most important thing to employee retention and keeping the guys motivated?

This might be more of a given perk, but it’s worth mentioning —Useful knowledge.

The quality of knowledge that’s useful is dependent on the demographic of your employee pool.

If you’re able to consistently educate them and or provide refreshers on advice that’s gotten them through life up to the point of joining your company, that’s likely to keep them around.

It could get even better in sharing information with them that’ll allow them to begin their own personal branding campaign. That’s empowerment on another level!
