Recognizing an unexpected outcome as a bonus worth leaning into is one that has to be prepared to even get the opportunity to experience. There has to be some level of expectation for benefits to be received. Once it’s acquired, there has to be a strategy in place to nurture that benefit into an investment.
Preparing Yourself to Recognize Unexpected Opportunities
Have you considered exercising the powerful confirmation of affirmation statements?
These are things I’m personally driven by.
It’s taking an opportunity to be a little more selfish with what you want.
Through that, you frame the things that you’re seeing.
We could all be looking at the same thing, but getting different benefits from the same medium in that sense.
That’s personally how I got better at spotting opportunities.
Because if you have a laser sharp focus on what you want, you can pick apart the things that truly matter and helps push you forward with whatever it is you want.
That’s where one man’s trash could be another man’s treasure. (for lack of better terms)
But that’s how it works. I can even recall a time where preparing allowed me to get that opportunity.
I’d apply to a time when I had to conduct an interview for a class I was in.
When I had a specific thing that I’d have to speak to the person I was interviewing, I would take notes from my book or whatever it was.
It might even have been a movie, but we end up speaking to someone that was in the media we would have to observe for class, and it was just that type of prep in itself that ended up making doing the actual assignment of interviewing much easier.
Some people chose to freestyle it, and it showed for the most part when it was time to present.
I however was able to get so much out of a very little time and that’s a valuable skill that many would probably take for granted.
But training myself and my team to stay alert for seeing the hidden benefits happened through practicing gratitude as often as possible.
That’s one of the 1st things that I look to exercise on wake up.
Specifically I’ll try to count out 10 things that I’m grateful for to start the day off.
From there, it snowball effects into more things that I end up being grateful about.
But just practicing that attitude of gratitude is what helps.
You’re not too sure of what the day brings to you. Especially depending on the type of work you do.
Sometimes it’s freelanced, so there’s nothing that’s predictable.
And from that, you’re gonna get hit with a lot of different scenarios or things that’ll challenge you in being able to remain positive and optimistic through that uncertainty.
And I’ll usually reflect on some of my favorite media or doing things I’m comfortable with.
From there I’ll continue my day and can log what I’ve done.
If I’m spending most of my time feeling good I can still be sure in the fact that after whatever I’m going through is the case, it’s going to be for the better and I’m going to feel better as a result that I went through it.
The Role of Expectation in Receiving Unexpected Benefits
Having expectations in receiving unexpected benefits is important as well.
A big factor that contributes to such results is positivity.
Being positive is the difference between optimism and pessimism.
You’re expecting something to happen anyways, so if you can manipulate it to favorable outcomes, why not do it?
It’s amazing to see how easily these things happen you person or even team that is expecting things to happen.
Energy is a very real thing in where if you put yours to things that invest back into you, it pays off.
Everything that happens in the world is simply a transfer of energy.
